Description

The DOT Mechanic and Inspector Lead (Night Shift) has mastered the skills and independently performs all the duties of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Mechanic and Inspector 2; coaches, mentors, and assists with training lower-level DOT Mechanic and Inspector team; and delegates daily duties to the DOT Mechanic and Inspector Crew.

  • Coach, mentor, and assist with training lower-level DOT Maintenance Mechanic and Inspectors
  • Delegate daily duties to the DOT Maintenance Mechanic and Inspector crew
  • Direct workers who are assembling or disassembling equipment or cleaning parts
  • Ensure all company vehicles pass Federal, State, and Local inspection regulations
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for evidence of abuse, damage, or mechanical malfunction
  • Verify successful repairs by performing post-repair vehicle and equipment inspections
  • Prepare required reports for submittal through proper channels (i.e., investigation, inspection, repair, and Texas State Inspection (TSI) reports)
  • Use diagnostic software and equipment for troubleshooting, repair guidance, and inspections
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles (i.e., lubricate, repair, replace, or clean parts)
  • Use hand tools, jacks, and cranes to adjust, maintain, or repair subassemblies
  • Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Use micrometers and gauges to examine parts for damage or excessive wear
  • Use electric and gas welders and soldering tools to repair broken parts and structures
  • Research parts, place purchase orders, and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
  • Assemble gear systems and align gears with frames
  • Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment at job locations when necessary
  • Perform daily yard audits for expired annual inspections
  • Safely drive company vehicles over various road types, terrains, and in extreme weather
  • Perform general shop housekeeping duties
  • Ensure work area is free of hazardous objects and substances
  • Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies by attending all required HSE training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a DOT Mechanic and Inspector 2 preferred
  • Demonstrate mastery of the skills needed to perform the required duties of the DOT Mechanic and Inspector 2 required
  • Maintaining a current valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • Current valid CDL-A is preferred but not required
  • Must be able to understand and follow written directions (i.e., manufacturer troubleshooting and repair instructions)
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively interact with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Must be familiar with, or able to learn, safe hand tool use
  • Must be self- motivated, reliable, independent, and possess a strong work ethic
  • Able to safely perform required duties during a 12+ hour work shift that will include days or nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be physically able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb equipment ladders or stairs throughout the work shift
  • Must be physically able work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
  • Must be physically able to safely lift or move 50 Lbs. without assistance
