The Special Core Analysis Scientist will be responsible for managing multiple projects relating to research and design in order to develop new products/software related to pressure pumping services, which includes oil well cementing, acidizing, hydraulic fracturing, and sand control applications. In addition, the scientist/engineer will be expected to analyze and interpret data from the testing and summarize it into a report format, and acting as a subject matter expert on their lab equipment and testing procedures. The scientist will also need to assemble and disassemble the flow apparatus, as well as perform the necessary steps to evaluate the possibilities and existence of formation damage.

As a Special Core Analysis Scientist , you will be responsible for: 

  • Responding to technical requests from customers and the field that require investigation including testing and analysis
  • Plans and conducts research, designs experiments and analyzes data to understand products and mechanisms for the development of new product, services, software, and processes
  • Applies fundamental understanding of special core analysis and formation damage to solve problems, initiate projects and testing programs, as well as provide innovative ideas.
  • Collaborates with the Pressure Pumping multi-disciplinary teams, colleagues, and other product lines
  • Participates in the development of standards, conferences, and committees to show industry leadership.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Scientific/Engineering discipline with 6+ years’ experience (or High School Diploma / GED with 15+ years of experience).
  • Master’s Degree with 4-6 years’ experience. Ph.D. with 2-4 years’ experience.
  • Familiar with oilfield chemistries and equipment, and knowledge of typical materials used and functionality.
  • Background in Chemistry/Geology/Geomechanics
  • Experience interaction with the concepts of formation damage, rock mechanics, capillary pressure, and wettability among others.
  • A knowledge and understanding of core analysis / special core analysis
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be action-oriented, ethical in values, and have a strong focus on satisfying customers.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Communicates well both individually and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates project management skills.
  • Self-motivating, goal-oriented, and determined.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiar with industry stimulation chemicals, terms, fluids, and modeling software.
  • Knowledge regarding compositional analysis for rock formations
  • Experience building/designing laboratory apparatus
  • Ability to clean and prepare core samples
  • Familiar with standard tests performed on cores: Pore Volume to Break Through, Regain permeabilities, gel testing
  • Past experience in flow assurance chemistry and corrosion studies
  • Work experience with multiple-geographic locations.
  • Familiar with stage-gate processes
  • Understanding of API standards and practices
